I can't believe I've been away so long. My job has been crazy, but I continue to catch up on news of Blake and Mortimer. I saw the discussion in French about the 2013 book - The Ray of Septimus. I assume that this will about the technology, not the deceased scientist. I'm hoping it will follow the ideas hinted at here:

It's odd , last week I cheched out your personal data on this forum , and I couldn't help but regret that it seemed that you were no longer among us , so ... glad to have you back , Sniper !

And since it must be 2012 by now in (at least part of) North America , Happy New Year to all our American and Canadian friends !

Thank you, Will! I'm still a big fan of Blake and Mortimer, but I have additional job responsibilities this year. Oddly enough, I also have to apply for the job I'm currently doing, so very busy on this end!

I had a very quiet holiday which is what I wanted. The second semester just started and all is going well. How about you?

Hah! I see that I was talking about my job in the last post. Well, I did apply... and they gave my job to someone much younger and less qualified. This will save them a lot of money, but it has screwed up my life! I have a freelance gig in September, but otherwise I'm unemployed. I'm so sorry to be adding to President Obama's bad numbers! :-?

Cinebook is saying, via Facebook, that they're publishing a translation of The Secret of the Swordfish in three volumes next year. I've been waiting for, oh, 15 year for this, so I'm quite excited. I've read it in French, of course, but my grasp of the language isn't enough to catch subtleties. :p

Hoping that the translation is faithful to the original work.

I've pre-ordered The Secret of the Swordfish and I'll report back on the translation when I get it. I can only judge by the tone of the work. What I always find interesting is that while Blake and Mortimer "sound" British, Olrik is often given some Americanisms in the translation. Of course, sometimes Cinebook falls down completely; I laugh every time I read, "Damned, this torpor!"

I wonder what the names of some of the characters (Silly , Pantry etc...)in The Oath of the 5 Lords will be . You'll report on that too , Sniper ? If ever you intend to buy the book ! ;) :)

If Cinebook ever gets around to translating it, yes! I am a completist and end up buying every book in both French and English. I pre-ordered Oath three months ago, but it has not yet arrived.

What's your opinion on these strange "funny" names , which are , apparently , not apreciated by other english speaking members ?

They are inappropriate and distracting, especially in the case of Lord Toddle. Why give a joke name to a character we see being tortured and murdered? It doesn't make sense.

I had a horrible thought. What if Cinebook decides to be over-literal when they translate this edition?

It could happen!

Well , it could make sense , but only if the whole story is conceived as a kind of joke , or even a mockery . Which , in my opinion , is not entirely impossible .
Anyway , let's hope these characters will be given other , more appropriate names in the english version . ;)

I don't see how what appears to be a fairly straight-forward mystery - even with the weird T.E. Lawrence McGuffin - could be a mockery.
