Thoughts on Character Development in Blake and Mortimer

Hello everyone............
I have been a long-time fan of Blake and Mortimer and recently, I’ve found myself reflecting on the character development throughout the series, particularly how certain characters evolve or remain static across the different albums. I wanted to open a discussion on this topic to see what fellow fans think!
To start, I find that Professor Mortimer is a fascinating character because of his scientific brilliance and moral compass. However, he often appears to be overshadowed by Captain Blake’s authoritative presence, especially in matters of action and leadership. I’m curious if anyone else feels that Mortimer’s character sometimes takes a back seat, even though his intelligence is a core element of solving many of the mysteries?
On the other hand, Captain Blake’s leadership is always admirable, but I wonder if his character is as dynamic as Mortimer’s? Blake is consistent and reliable, but do you think his role limits him from evolving much as a character? He seems to embody the archetypal British officer, which is great for the series, but perhaps a bit too predictable at times. Do you think there could be room for more vulnerability or growth in Blake’s portrayal in future stories?
Another aspect that intrigues me is the recurring antagonists, especially Olrik. He’s such a formidable villain, but we rarely get much insight into his personal motivations or deeper backstory. Does anyone else think Olrik could be more fleshed out? Or do you feel that keeping him somewhat mysterious adds to his menace?
I’d love to hear everyone’s thoughts on these characters or any others that stand out to you. How do you think the balance between Blake and Mortimer is handled in the series? Are there any moments that show character growth or nuances I might have missed?
Thanks in advance!
